I originally bought the large in this jacket and it was too big, big shoutout to First Mfg for making the exchange process quick and painless. I’m 6’2” 165lbs 44 inch chest. Size down from your normal size range based off chart
This jacket seems awesome. I ordered the wrong size though, and now have to pay to ship it back to get the correct size. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THIS JACKET AFTER TRYING IT ON AT A FIRST MANUFACTURING COMPANY DEALER SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING TWICE. Nothing wrong with the jacket - but that is a crappy policy when I am buying a 300+ dollar jacket.
This is my third purchase from First Mfg. and I have yet to be disappointed. I was looking for a jacket to fit my style and bike - '22 HD Street Glide. Because I do a lot of highway riding, I needed a jacket that would protect me, had good ventilation, but most importantly look good on me. And this is that jacket. I would recommend ordering down 1 size. I'm a medium and it fitted a little big. Even when calling in for an exchange, I had no issues (thanks Jason). The leather feels buttery soft, but very durable for my rides.
Well made and fast shipping. Have not been able to try it out yet but looking forward.
I ordered the Top Performer to be a middle man between my Vincent (Raider) and Turbine jackets, and it appears to be ready for the job. I did size down from my normal 2xl to XL and I am glad I did because the jacket fits perfectly. 5'10" 197 broad shoulders with athletic build. Too much room in the waist but I was able to taper it a bit with the provided side snaps. Vents everywhere and not quite as thick/warm as my Vincent. I anticipate being comfortable in this jacket from around 50-75 degrees or so. Once it hits the low/mid 80's or higher I will likely switch to my Turbine jacket. I was able to fit my D30 ghost armor in the shoulder/elbow pockets without issue. The level 2 armor sold by First Mfg also fits well and is very comfortable and unobtrusive.
This is a great riding jacket for not too much $. You can put armor in, it has a lining. Heavy leather. Good look. I'd recommend ordering your normal size.
Only reason it's not 5 stars is because FMC's sizing and tailoring could be better, across the board. But, a good jacket regardless.
This is my second First mfg. Jacket.. my original First is 15 years old logged lots of miles and weather and life events. I recently lost quite a few lbs. So it no longer fits, that's the only reason I needed another. I looked, and compared to 15 years ago there are so many more styles and choices... My new jacket did not disappoint. The fit is perfect based on measurements listed on the site since I really had no idea what size I am. And the quality is equally perfect... A really nice well constructed quality jacket especially for the price... Couldn't be happier. I ordered an XL I'm 6'1" 205 with long arms... Coat fit amazing
I don’t normally write reviews but I felt I needed to because I read all the reviews online before purchasing my Top Performer jacket. I read varying reviews regarding sizing and I wanted to give my opinion on that and some other aspects of the jacket.
For reference, I am 5’ 10” and 175 pounds, athletic build. The sizing of my medium jacket matches up more to a large according to their size chart. Mine measures 44 chest, 40 waist and 27.5 back. So when they say it runs a half size large, they are correct. I normally wear a medium in jackets and this one is no exception. It will be perfect with a medium weight hoodie underneath without the liner. If you keep the liner, things will get a little tight with a hoodie. I probably could wear a small with just t shirts and no liner. Which I may eventually do.
The quality is outstanding for the price. Granted, I haven’t worn it for long but I expect to to last. The leather is thick and soft, not much break in will be required. I assume the black leather is struck through, which is kind of a shame, but not a big deal really. Would be nice if it were tea core so some brown would show through with wear and age. But what can one expect for around $300? They did do a good job of placing the looser grain panels in the areas that are less visible and where you would want looser/softer leather, like under arms and in high flex areas. The used nicer and tighter grain leather for the main front, rear and outer arm panels.
